Bernard (Pink is for the Weekend)
Bernard (Pink is for the Weekend)
Marker, Color Pencil, Crayon & Digital Drawing in Adobe Fresco
2021

I continued to work with scanned images of my now 5 year old daughter Zimmie’s pile of daily drawings. I scan them into my computer and make arrangements while adding digital drawings of figures layered on top. I use Adobe Fresco on my iPad, and work across multiple layers to enhance the marks made by hand while also trying to mimic the mark making style digitally with the pencil brushes in Adobe Fresco. This image is of one of my former students Bernard. He was one of my only students I got to teach in person during the “dual modality” phase of the covid dark times. My daughter Zimmie was insistent that it had more pink while I was drawing and selecting some of her drawings. So we scanned and layered a faded piece of pink construction paper and worked with it until she was satisfied with its level of pink. Zimmie has this thing where she can only use this one pink spoon when she eats on the weekend. If we attempt to give the pink spoon on a weekday, she will quietly put it back and choose another. She is very insistent and will always kindly state the pink is for the weekend. She also felt that was a suitable title for this piece, and I agreed.
